Meet Your Coeur D'Alene Dentist
Dr. Filip Orban
If you’ve spoken with Dr. Orban already, you’re probably familiar with his commitment to helping the community achieve positive overall oral health and happiness for several years now. Helping people get out of pain and achieve a smile they’re proud to show off is a wonderful feeling and one of his favorite aspects of dentistry. However, we wanted to give patients another chance to get to know Dr. Orban a bit better. The next time you come in for a routine cleaning or other appointment, we hope that you’ll find it easier to strike up a conversation with him during your visit!
Why I Became a Dentist
Since Dr. Orban was in sixth grade, he knew he’d like to be a dentist. After seeing his uncle help the family through dentistry, he wanted to be just like him. By the time he was in high school, he was shadowing dentists in an endodontic office. After shadowing for over a month, he quickly realized that dentistry offered a blend of art and science, two aspects he largely enjoyed. Being able to help people in a hands-on way and be challenged in his career was incredibly appealing.
Furthermore, Dr. Orban is energized by the interpersonal aspects of dentistry. Small talk helps him get to know patients better and confirm if they’re doing well or need help with their oral health. While other dentists may struggle with familiarizing themselves with patients, to him it feels natural. In the end, this helps him provide more catered care and create a more welcoming and relaxing dental environment.
My Educational Background
Dr. Orban earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Southern Adventist University before achieving his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. After dental school, he accepted a position at a practice in Spokane Valley and worked there for six months. He eventually opened his own practice in Idaho. As a result, he’s licensed to practice in both Washington and Idaho.
He always knew he wanted to pursue general dentistry, largely because of the freedom it gave him as a medical professional. He wouldn’t be forced to perform the same treatments and could expand his expertise in the process. For example, he’s continuing his education on highly advanced dental technologies like CEREC same-day crowns via CAD/CAM software. After completing several training courses on completing several single crown cases, he’s confident that he can make the practice all digital for more effective and efficient treatments.
Additionally, Dr. Orban has taken multiple courses from the Kois Institute located in Seattle. These courses mainly focused on occlusions and endodontics. He’s also pursued multiple courses with Implant Direct in Las Vegas to learn more about dental implant procedures.
Life Outside the Practice
Dr. Orban is happily married to Manuela, who has been a nurse practitioner for over five years now. He’s very excited to announce that they have a baby on the way and is more than ready to start growing the family.
Idaho offers breathtaking landscapes and lakes to visit, so you can believe that Dr. Orban and his family take advantage of it by going on walks, hikes and exploring the downtown area. He also enjoys skiing, golfing, camping and participating in mission trips to provide dental care to underserved communities when he gets the chance.
